It's OK but...
It's well written but the war itself is broad-brushed.

A surprisingly bad book
A remarkably poor piece of historiography, this book is chaotically edited, packed with flabby abstractions, and is disappointingly free of original analysis or insight.

An Excellent Political History
An excellent work on the causes of the Revolution, the course of the war, and the formation of the United States after the war was over.

massive, triumphalist narrative that is a bit too sentimental
Given the quality of the other volumes I have read in this outstanding series, I had high expectations for this one: I wanted context, succinct bios, story, and analysis.

Do not mistake for an introductory text.
To get a little background out of the way first, let me state that the highest credentials I possess in historical studies are a minor in History and a love of the genre.
