It definitely charges a phone. The time it takes to do that has been as little as 4 hours and as high as 16 hours. Depending on which combination of cords, outlets, phases of the moon, etc. As my regular charger takes a little over an hour from dead. I can't exactly recommend this. But it's certainly an option. Once I inevitably mess up my charging port, I will likely get more use out of it.
