Great idea. Not the most durable material

Great idea. Not the most durable material
I am an avid baker and I often make yeast doughs, including pizza dough, so I thought this seemed like a great idea. I still think it's a great idea after receiving and examining these proofing boxes, but there are a few things to consider and know. For some reason, the pictures made me think these had divots on the bottom for placing dough balls. They do not. They are completely flat and smooth. The plastic quality is OK, but not super durable. The bottoms say PP, which I think is polystyrene, a decent kind of plastic, but neither they nor the lids seem like they will last through many years of use. I have other kitchen containers of similar constructions that have not held up well to repeated use.I do like the fact that these are long and thin, with double-hinged lids that snap shut. You can obviously stack them, and you don't need to pull the bottom one out fully to open it, just far enough to pop the front of the lid open. They would be better if they were constructed as drawers that could slide out, as that would enable you to really stack things on top while still accessing the contents, and even removing that piece for cleaning. Which actually gives me the idea of repurposing some other clear kitchen drawers I have and using them to proof dough.I really like the idea of making a large batch of dough and cutting it into pieces before proofing. I sometimes do that with doughs I freeze. The only issue for me is I generally make no-knead doughs, which are very wet, and I prefer to divide them after doing an overnight or all-day rest in the refrigerator, as that diminishes their stickiness and makes them so much easier to divide. Something to think about. But if you bake frequently and like fresh bread, but hate having to pull out a big hunk of dough and cut and reshape it, it's a great idea to make a large batch and then divide it into smaller balls to be baked daily. Just use less yeast so that it doesn't over-proof while sitting.

This is awesome. I make a fair amount of wood-fired sourdough pizza. The dough has to ferment at least 24 hours after shaping. I usually put the 4 dough balls into a roasting pan and then try to get the plastic wrap to cover it well. I HATE using single-use plastic but I don't have anything else that covers my roasting pan. This set is the perfect size for the 4 dough balls and lid seals it all up without the need for plastic wrap. It fits perfectly into my side-by-side fridge.

My husband and I love to cook and a few years ago, we really got into gourmet pizza. When I saw these boxes, I was excited to try them out because we usually just leave the dough in a bowl and it would occasionally get dry spots on the outer layer of the dough which can make it a little difficult to work around those areas. These proofing boxes changed that. I’ve used them a couple times now and so far they have worked perfectly. They are a perfect environment for pizza dough proofing. I would definitely recommend these.

I admit that I never knew this type of thing existed before I saw it on Amazon. I usually just mix the dough, smash it into the pan, and put the toppings on.

I made up some pizza dough today and let it sit in the fridge for 5 hours. We used 1/2 for dinner (two pizzas) and expect to use more breadsticks tomorrow.

The moisture level in the container is high. The lid snaps on, but when I picked it up by the handles, the center pulled up a bit, so I supported the bottom with my other hand.

They washed just fine in the dishwasher. The dough came out easily from the greased container.

I love making homemade pizzas and these proofing containers are awesome and they do a much better job proofing the dough versus a cookie sheet and plastic wrap, the lids have a nice air tight seals and they are hinged in the middle so can open one side or the other to get the dough out without having to remove the entire lid, I also love the size of these containers, they are big enough to hold 5 or 6 small dough balls or 2 or 3 larger dough balls and the containers fit on the shelf in my fridge perfectly, overall these containers have definitely made the proofing part of making my homemade pizzas a lot easier and I am very happy with the quality of these containers, absolutely a good value for the price.

I used these for proofing dough for a pizza dinner party this weekend. Worked great for 280g dough balls, each box can fit 6 dough balls, stacked they fit perfect in my fridge. It’s not the thickest of materials, but should last as long as you treat them well. As others have said, obviously it can be used for many other things. The hinged lid seems to be pretty secure and the handles are a nice touch.

This arrived shattered. The outer shipping box was fine, but the inside box the proofing containers were in was smashed (obviously before shipping). I have returned them. They look like they have potential, but I will say I was concerned at how brittle the plastic was and how thoroughly they were shattered. It looks like a regular drop in the kitchen could cause this, so I would recommend being particularly careful with these when you're using them. You don't want to break them, of course, but you also don't want to have shards of plastic in your dough and end up having to pitch it!

I had been using plastic containers that only held one dough ball and if I overnight proofed, it often forced the tops open causing the dough to dry. The name-brand proofing boxes are very expensive so I thought these might be a good option for our household. We usually do 3-4 dough balls and one box can hold all of them even if I cold-proof overnight. They are very easy to clean and don't warp.
