A Welcome Reunion: A Short Story Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 8,274 ratings

From the bestselling author of The Perfect Child comes a short thriller about a couple faced with the terrifying return of a girl they once called their own who threatens everything they hold dear.

Janie is the last person Hannah and Christopher Bauer want to see again.

But Janie’s moved back to Clarksville. She’s no longer the frail child Hannah and Christopher adopted over eleven years ago. The child who destroyed their lives. Now Janie is out of juvenile detention—a beautiful, confident young adult—and publicly promoting her new tell-all memoir.

At just eighteen, Janie has a violent and tragic story to share, brimming with grisly details. Details the public can’t get enough of…and that the Bauers can’t bear to relive. Janie has taken a new name and claims to have reformed her sociopathic ways. She’s ready to make amends. But when the Bauers refuse to meet with her, she takes matters into her own hands.

After the social worker formerly assigned to the case makes disturbing revelations about Janie’s calculated behavior, the Bauers brace for Janie’s next move, determined to protect their family—at any cost.

It was a great way to sum up the series. I feel like this could’ve all been part of one book though and not had the novella

If you thought Janie was terrifying in The Perfect Child? Just wait to see what this little “welcome reunion” has in store!

In this short story, Janie is 18 and has aged out from the system. She wrote a book detailing her “mistakes” and she claims that she has been rehabilitated. She’s ready to make amends to the people she’s hurt. Hannah is not falling for it. Janie’s first target?? Hannah’s son Cole. She reaches out to him on instagram and now Hannah and Christopher are once again, fighting to protect their lives.

To really understand the depth of Janie, you will have to, of course, read The Perfect Child, first. This short story kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, wondering what Janie will do next. It’s intense, fast paced, and thrilling. The reunion I’ve been waiting for!! Wish it was longer!! It’s a must read for all fans of Lucinda Berry.

I really liked this ending , definitely a twist for me because I wasn’t expecting what happened at the end to happen. Definitely recommend

Not sure if that was worth my time to read or not. Just left me wanting more questions. This was a continuous novella of “The Perfect Child” which was crazy and I thought it could actually happen in real life. That was a good book! It makes sense seeing that the author was a Psychologist and is now a full time writer. “The Perfect Child” is an amazing book but this novella I definitely could have done without. Maybe if it had been a full novel and given more details but instead of an opening, middle, and an ending it was just a middle to me.

With that being said, I will be reading other books from her. This novella wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either hence the three stars.

3.8 🌟 Really captivating story. Definitely had me at the edge of my seat… for the first half. The ending was meh, but still a nice quick read.

This was just what we needed -An end to the perfect child. Do I wish there was more? Absolutely. But after reading this I do feel like there is closure.

Okay so I read this IMMEDIATELY after reading a perfect child because I needed there to be an ending of some sort even if it wasn’t happy and I am still disappointed. The writing is great but it just felt like it was rushing to give us an ending and even though it kind of did there’s still so so many questions left unanswered!!!

I read this book off a suggestion for a quick read. Please make sure you read for trigger warnings before reading this book as it deals with child abuse which I didn’t know.

This book tries to pull you in and almost somewhat succeeds but then fails by falling apart rapidly.

A mother lost a family member to a child she adopted and finds that this child is a psychopath and is coming after her family and son and then does what’s she can to keep her away by killing her.

The book end so rapidly that you didn’t even know it was the ending until I was prompted for a review.

If you’re into this sort of story be aware that it’s super quick and a let down and are probably better off finding a different short story.

The story was exciting. It was the perfect read for a quick mini thriller. The frustration and need for justice could be felt with every page. An ending you can only hope for in stories like this.

I was pleasantly surprised at this follow up story line having read The Perfect Child. However it was not meaty enough for me and I felt a longer story would have been better. The ending left me hanging.
