Simple Formula
In my mid 40s, I've noticed my near vision worse than before. I've looked at vision vitamins but have not tried them before. Inundated with so many formulas to choose from, I appreciate this brand is keeping it simple. Bottle has a plastic seal on the lid single seal under the lid and recyclable plastic. You get 90 capsules and you only need to take one per day as opposed to 2 with most other pills. This gives you a nice 3 month supply!Ingredients:This has a high amount of Lutein (20mg) and Zeaxanthin(4mg). It doesn't include the other ingredients of the AREDS study (which are Vit C, Vit E, zinc and copper). Doing a little internet searching, I've found the typical dose for eye health is 6mg-10mg of Lutein. The 6mg is most often used to prevent age-related macular degeneration or cataracts while the 10mg is typically recommended for treating symptoms of macular degeneration rather than prevent it. I'm excited this product has the amount necessary for effectiveness because I am having issues with small print and this should help improve that. The American Optometric Association suggests consuming 2mg Zeaxanthin per day. So, this product exceeds these ranges for effectiveness.I am not sure what benefit beet root has but the black pepper is supposed to help with absorption. If you want a complete dose of the AREDS study components proven to be effective, I would suggest something else.Taste:I don't swallow pills so if you are like me, you want to know what this tastes like. It has a taste but nothing gross. It is definitely easy to handle. I don't have an issue getting it down with just water since it doesn't clump in my mouth and is easy to swallow. It is also easy to add to food if you so choose. I did go ahead and begin taking these lutein pills, but I was a little worried about how the bottle was warped, like it was left in the sun too long or something. Even once I removed the plastic seal on the lid, it still never went back to its original shape. Does this mean they're no good? I don't know how I'd be able to tell, since the condition they're treating -- AMD -- takes such a long time to progress.
