Installation: I installed both the outdoor antenna and the booster/gain unit in my unfinished attic (and yes, I had to run an electrical outlet to provide power). I simply attached the outdoor antenna to the end of a spare piece of 2x4 board (~3' in length) and then attached that to an existing rafter to get to the highest internal point of my attic. In my house, I then penetrated a point near the center of my great room ceiling close to the edge where the wall meets, to mount the indoor antenna on the wall so it would sit close to the joining point (wall-ceiling intersection). The indoor antenna (IDA) was mounted upside down so the cable was facing up to go through the ceiling penetration (use a 7/8' drill bore). I used a scrap piece of drywall to cut a 7/8" circle with a utility knife (of course with a small divot for the cable) and some joint compound to fill the ceiling hole. While my attic gets cold in the winter, It is still always well above the -30-degree lower operating temperature limit.
Result: I had 1 bar on my phone throughout my house before installation (AT&T service). I had three bars on my phone in the upper reach of my attic where I mounted the outdoor antenna. Booster is indicating (on the display) the lower frequency bands (~700-850Mhz) were receiving 3 bars, while the higher frequency bands (~1700-2300Mhz) were topping out at 5 bars. After installation I now have 3 bars on my phone in most of my house around the great room area (where my indoor antenna is mounted). The rest of the house is either 1 or 2 bars depending on the distance from the antenna.
Feedback: 1. While the installation illustration shows a wide spread of coverage from the indoor antenna, I don't think the spread is as wide as pictured... coverage is much more cone shaped (originating from the antenna) then represented. 2. While centering the indoor antenna in your house (ideally in the most open room possible; family/living room if feasible), is your best bet, the coverage still has issues penetrating multiple walls. For example, if there is a closet in the "path" of the boosted signal to the point where you aim to get better coverage, your gain will be significantly decreased. 3. Unless your walls are made of paper, or this is put up in a wide-open warehouse/barn/garage, there is no way common residential consumers are going achieve 5000 square feet of coverage with this unit. My house is a 3200 square foot ranch and I still have dead spots after installation. This information should be better presented to potential purchasers, as the claim of up to 5000sqft coverage implies this unit is "more powerful" than others. 4. The connector from the booster unit to the indoor antenna should not be a N-type but rather an SMA type so penetration holes can be much smaller.
Installing it was a breeze and the instructions were easy to follow. Once I set it up, my signal was boosted in just a few minutes. My calls are now crystal clear, and my internet speeds are on point!
What I like most about this booster is that it's FCC approved, so there's no need to worry about any interference with other devices. Plus, it's low-key and fits in with my home décor without taking up too much space.
All in all, I'd definitely recommend the Cell Phone Booster for Home and Office to anyone who's tired of crappy cell phone signals. It's easy to set up, works with all carriers, and has improved my signal strength and call quality big time!
Then there are the HUGE connectors on the cables...why?! You have to drill a hole almost 3/4" in diameter everywhere you need to run the cable, which is way bigger than what's needed for typical American stuff. It didn't make for a pretty job.
And lastly, the instructions are woefully lacking. It tells you what all the items on the display are, but explains nothing. About half is self-evident and half is not. I suspect I'm not getting as much as I could from this system as I could if I understood the settings and adjustments better.
All in all, it helps but I would love a do-over.
