Friends to lovers

Friends to lovers
Note: I’m binging the Wishful series and started The Christmas Fountain and quickly realized I missed a book somehow. I’m pretty set on experiencing books in chronological order – so I hopped over to Kait Nolan’s website to find that her Wishful and Wishing For A Hero series start to intertwine about here. (Technically, Make You Feel My Love is before See You Again, but I didn’t notice in that one.) Anywhoo… Nolan has this nifty spreadsheet on her website showing the order if you’re obsessive like me. Also of note is that this book was originally released in 2016 and titled If I Didn’t Care. I haven’t read that version, but she notes in the forward to Make You Feel My Love that she rewrote more than half the book.Whew! OK. Judd, you silly loveable man. The first third of this book was necessary for background and plot, but infuriating. Judd has pretty much loved Autumn all his life – but after a horrible attack got it into his crazy 17yo brain that he could best support her by being just a friend. More than a decade later and he still hasn’t moved on from his teenage thinking. Much to the consternation of Autumn and the entire town of Wishful. It’s hard to share without giving away spoilers, but I enjoyed the way Nolan mixed small town, friends to lovers, and romantic suspense. Judd’s current girlfriend can’t take the competition for Judd’s priorities any more (there’s no cheating), he’s named interim police chief, Autumn’s father is released from prison, and Judd’s left trying keep all the plates spinning before they crash down around him. Readers might want to know that with the mystery/suspense aspects this covers some darker subjects than the Wishful series: a history of abuse, a stalker, a kidnapping, and attempted murder. Despite having guessed the plot twist – the second half gripped me and wouldn’t let go.I loved the HEA and the epilogue. I’m also happy that Nolan is giving poor Mary Alice (Judd’s ex) her own love story in The Christmas Fountain (Wishful #9). While I’m looking forward to Rowan & Nash’s book, Watch Over Me (Wishing for a Hero #2), I have to be honest that I’m particularly interested in Ethan, the US Marshal in his book, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. (I also may have decided Ethan looks like Timothy Olyphant from Justified – so there’s that.)Another note: If you keep scrolling in the ebook after finishing the story – you’ll find a teaser that Nolan is going to be launching a Romantic Suspense line of books under the pen name Harper Jackson. Sometime in 2021 – after reading this, I can’t wait.

Lots of action and a surprise ending. There is some rough parts and there is some sex scenes. But I liked the mystery solving and the two main characters were great.

Good writing but a little long for my liking. Suspense was short at the end which is fine bc I don’t enjoy too much mystery and suspense in a romance book. I didn’t connect with the characters bc they were so young.

MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE is a standalone read and a rewrite of IF I DIDN'T CARE which will no longer be for sale. There were things the author wanted to change, improve and add so she did the rewrite. I have both stories and have enjoyed both.

The story starts with the main characters being 6 years old. They have been lifelong friends. As teens they were about to express their love for one another when Autumn's abusive father storms into the room and starts accusing the two of them of unspeakable things. Judd is big enough to fight back and tries to protect Autumn until her father gets a gun and shoots Judd. He is seriously wounded but he survives and Autumn's father goes to prison. Judd's family makes a home for her and does their best to help her recover from her father's actions.

Now adults Judd is the Chief of Police and he is still looking after Autumn to the point the girls he dates have a big problem with Autumn. It doesn't matter, to Judd, Autumn always comes first. Then one night Autumn gets a phone call notifying her that her father has been released from prison for good behavior and due to an illness. Judd and Autumn go into defense mode. They are sure her dad is going to try and harm her. And then her house is set on fire. They are sure they know how did it but can't prove it.

The story is filled with adventure and terrifying moments as Autumn sets out to protect herself from her father. He by the way has continued to declare that he has changed, got right with God and wants Autumn's forgiveness. He swears he is not behind all the things happening to her. This is a very good read and I definitely recommend it.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 11/1/2020.

As always, another well written book, however, if you come from a family or relationship of physical, mental, and psychological consequences relating to PTSD, this series may not be for you if you can't get around the traumatic parts of this book. I'm saying this because I know people who have gone through things like this and nightmares and alike never end. My cousin Scott ended his life by suicide in 2008.

Outside of this, the feelings Autumn and Judd kept hidden all of the years they've known each other finally came to a head. Who doesn't love a happy ending?

It was a horrible life she came from, but he was always there to save her. Could he do it again? Very enjoyable book, I already have the next one waiting!

I really enjoy reading Kait Nolan books, and that hold true for this one. It has romance, a handsome hero, and a strong heroine. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

That was my favorite part of this sweet story. Their connection and love was unbreakable. From best friends since kids to more to best friends again due to a fear of losing each other after a tragedy almost separated them forever. I love how Judd always knew how to soothe Autumn when the past was too much to bear. Everyone should have a Judd in their lives. Someone who would move heaven and earth for you and always be there no matter what. His devotion was my second favorite part. The found family was a close third. I love Kait Nolan books and can’t wait for book #2 in this series.

A seamless integration of romance and suspense!
Having read a few of Nolan’s romances, I wondered how she would do bringing in the elements of mystery and suspense. Have to say, I was thrilled with the result! It has everything… friends to lovers sweet small town romance, some really steamy love scenes, complex backstories, mystery and lots of tension.
I’ve read a few of Nolan’s books now and really love that her stories are completely character driven. Nolan is absolutely masterful in the development of her lead characters and how they evolve over the course of the story. Autumn and Judd both have their own choices to make and obstacles to overcome in order to shift from what has been their status quo to get to a whole new reality they will build together. The tension builds with each piece of their history that is shared and each choice they make to bring their troubles to a resolution. Not everything is as it first seems and the journey is delicious!
I will absolutely be reading this entire series!
As noted by the author- If you prefer books without profanity or steamy romance, this might not be the book for you.

Judd is a policeman in his home town, he's been friends with Autumn since they were young, she's his best friend, even through girlfriends. He's very protective of her, she has a heart problem, which is under control, she just has to take care of herself.
Autumn has been in love with Judd for years but he doesn't see it, or he doesn't want to change their friendship. Who's the baddy who's after her? and why?

My first read by this author, but I thorougly enjoyed it. Right up there with Toni Anderson, Karen Rose, Karen Robards. The story had a good mix of action and romance with a lot of great secondary characters. And who couldn't love Judd's family? It was obvious to me who the culprit was farily early on, but it didn't dectract from the story. And the HEA is one for the books. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Autumn and Judd have been best friends since childhood and have been through a lot together. Their bond has always been unbreakable. Until now. Faced with the thought of Judd proposing to his girlfriend, Autumn is determined that it's time for her to leave. She's always been in love with Judd and simply can't watch him marrying someone else. But her personal nightmare is coming back to get her, and she is no longer safe. Judd has been suppressing his feelings for Autum for years because the most important thing is keeping her safe. But how can he do that if she leaves?

I picked this up when it was free, and I enjoyed it. It's well-written, and the connection between the two main characters is clear. For me, the book was maybe about 3 1/2 stars, but rounding down to three seemed a bit mean. I did like the book, but it didn't entirely grab my attention to the point where I'm desperate to read the next.

Still, it was a pleasant small-town romance and worth reading.
