Makes grilling very relaxing while you are having a drink with your guests, but fully controlling the grilling process with your phone. I love that it estimates very accurately when the meat will be ready.

    I purchased the MEATER after watching Youtube videos on how to use my new Komodo style grill, where it was occasionally mentioned and recommended. The device and app are great. I love how when initiating a cook it steps you through the kind of protein and even the cut as well has how well you like it done. The app then calculates estimated cooking time and alerts you when there is five minutes remaining.

    I've gotten perfect results every time I use the MEATER. The biggest issue is when carving a roast it looks like someone put a bullet through it. Other probes where the electronics sit outside of the grill leave a hole a fraction of the size.

    Bluetooth range is acceptable with this model with a ceramic grill, where I can use the app anywhere in my kitchen or family room while the probe is outside in the grill. But with a metal top Weber gas grill I have to place my phone up against the glass on my kitchen window sill. The range is very much limited by the metal lid so I would purchase a MEATER with an extended range when using a gas grill.

    It's true - when the MEATER first came out (I kickstarted it), it took a while to actually receive...which drove a lot of skepticism. My dad, brother, sister and I all had ordered one and anxiously (and angrily) waited for it to come...which it did. You may wonder, why then a 5 star review? A few things:

    - You don't need to wait a long time anymore...I ordered two more of these devices, and they all came within a week.

    - The temperatures are accurate...trust us...we spent forever thinking 'yeah, this is too good to be true'. We tried it against all of our dozen-or-so wired thermometers (a TON of times), and the meat turned out better than when we had used the wired ones.

    - I see a lot of people complaining about the range...and I did too at first. However, one thing that the creator of this device should highlight in neon lights (HINT HINT) are their videos explaining that YOU CAN EXTEND THE RANGE. I can seriously go to the park with my nephews or watch a movie, and still cook my meat (NOT RECOMMENDED - FIRE HAZARD). If you have no idea where to find it...type in 'meater range' into youtube, I think it should pop up.

    - It really increased the types of meat my whole family were comfortable cooking. Their app lets you easily choose between beef, pork, fish and more...but then FURTHER lets you choose stuff like rib-eye, brisket, steak...and then asks you 'rare, medium rare, medium, etc.). Since then, I've only burned ONE piece of meet out of dozens...and that was because I fell asleep away from my phone...

    - It's super easy to clean. It wasn't THAT much hassle before, but when you're trying to keep your kitchen clean and 'sleek' and not have 3-4 wires dangling around, this fits in pretty well.

    We get it...a lot of us were angry because it took a while to come. I was one of those people...I seriously didn't touch the device cause it took so long to come and I was bitter. But, I'm glad I eventually did open and use it cause it works better than advertised.

    Note: A few buddies of mine ordered some 'knock-off' versions of this device because they were cheaper...that ended up being a big mistake. The quality was poor and their accuracy was super off...

    Everything about this product is great, with one big exception: the range. The iPhone app is great and provides lots of info and recommendations as well as monitoring your cook. The BIG problem for me: I cook on a Weber kettle outdoors and when the lid is on, it stifles the bluetooth signal and I can't receive it on my phone indoors. I must hover directly over the lid of the kettle for the signal to connect. The newer versions of this probe are much stronger and are able to transmit farther. Although I love this product and use it frequently, if you want to be away from your cook and know what's happening, buy the newer version.

    Follow the directions and set it up right and boom you have prefect cooked meat. Used it to smoke my Thanksgiving turkey first use and it was amazing. Use it all the time. Get the plus and you'll spend the extra few bucks for extra distance that you can get away from the grill/oven with your device. I don't know how far that is but it does not reach inside for the basic one (the one I got). Inside is about 3.5 ft away. If I leave Mt phone on the counter or the grill while cooking it works phenomenally

    GREAT concept and I'd say a great product overall. When used with the app, you insert the probe, tell the app what you're cooking and how (i.e., a beef roast in the oven, medium-rare etc.), then it tells you when it's done, but most helpful of all is *when* it will reach the desired temp and doneness (say, your roast will be cooked to medium-rare in 42 mins) .. that's the best feature -- love it! Takes the guesswork out, or multiple times opening the oven to take the temp. My only complaint is that bluetooth seems to drop if you get more than 5-6 ft away from the oven (or rather, when your phone does). That's relatively minor to me, maybe not for others.     I’m a relatively average cook, trying to feed our young family.

    I have steered clear of all kinds of roasts in the past, generally due to the stupid reason that I don’t know when it’s done. So I have to constantly take it out of the oven and check, which invariably it isn’t, so back in it goes. Then when I do finally take it out, it’s over cooked and dry. It’s all too hard.

    A mate recommended this to me and it’s potentially the best purchase I’ve made since birth, maybe earlier. All roasts require zero oversight, and come out perfect. I can’t tell you how awesome this is. I just sit back with a wine and wait for the notification.

    Only downside is the Bluetooth signal doesn’t travel far, so I have to sit near the oven with my wine instead of on the couch.
