Product Description
The film focuses on the leader of World War II's "Band of Brothers" and the leadership skills he possessed. A never before seen interview with the late Major Winters is utilized, as well as interviews with the "Band of Brothers" who are still alive. The film also touches on the relationship the Major had with those in Normandy post-WWII, including the family who has owned Brecourt Manor for centuries. Brecourt was the location of famed assault (then) Lt. Winters led on D-Day to take out the four German 105mm guns firing on American troops landing on Utah Beach.

When one walks through Normandy, Luxembourg and Arlington National Cemetery..the thoughts of duty, honor country, loyalty and dedication seem much more than words..but, rather ideals based on liberty and justice. And for those ideals, men have paid a terrible price for not having the opportunity to mature with families and children..nor never to see another sunset.
Somehow in this day and age, these ideals seem to be vanquished on other matters. But, to those who walked before us..and to those who gave so much..we thank you and will never forget.

Gave it only four stars because the original troopers -- as well as others who spoke directly about Dick -- were not identified, other than by their WWII portraits, while they were speaking about him and their experiences. Recognized "Babe" H by his jacket name, but could not figure out who the others were. Who was the American in the dark suit with the small CIB on his lapel speaking at the dedication of the monument? He looked so familiar...

The documentary itself is a letdown. It focuses on the statue of Major Winters in France, how it's made and why he was chosen. Then we get to see old pictures and films from the life of Major Winters. Him growing up and his career in the army. What we see is from basic training and Normandy. It doesn't go beyond that. The Major himself is seen too, speaking about different aspect of the war and the brotherhood. But this is very short, combined maybe a couple of minutes. Also a couple of men from Easy talk about him, bot nothing we haven't seen before. The price of this dvd is not worth it in my opinion. All the footage is available on youtube and I doubt you will watch it more than once.
