    The Powerstroke 3 Clear Top Black Dot features midrange and low-end resonant tones with increased attack, projection and durability. Inspired by legendary drummer Steve Smith, the Powerstroke 3 Top Black Dot is constructed with 10-mil Clear film and a 10-mil inlay at the outer edge of the head to subtly dampen unwanted overtones. The added 5-mil Black Dot provides deeper low tones and focused attack. Available in sizes 18" - 26".

    This drum head gave my kick drum the extra boooooom (extra Low freq) all Drumers and sound techs desire.
    I did add the Gibraltar Kick pad for the extra click and protection.

    I purchased this head for the front of a 22 inch vintage 1976 Rogers bass drum.
    It sounds great now. Never better for 25 years. My old head had a crack that I taped up
    with probably 5 layers of clear packing tape on both sides. This drum head is not
    inexpensive. After 2 hours of brand new playing, you cannot even tell where the beater
    is hitting.

    As of yesterday, I added a Remo bass drum beater pad. It's a 2.5 inch circular
    pad that adheres to the bass drum head where it's circumference encompasses the
    center of where that beater hits the head. It helps to protect the drum head from
    damage and also aids in ring and tone control as well as adds a small damper effect.

    I recommend doing this, however, it's not needed with this high quality drum head.

    Purchased this head for a 1978 Ludwig Vistalite kit. Delivery was quick, as promised. This was just what this kit needed. Nice boom and great attack. I don't use double pedal much with this kit, but when I do, this head is very articulate. Liked it so much I bought Remo CS Black dots for the toms. Excellent! Only downside is the dot is discoloring the beater felt. Oh well.

    As a casual drummer, even making this type of upgrade can change the sound drastically, in a good way. My old beater was way past due for a replacement, and I am very happy to have gotten this one. My favorite part is the black dot, because it helps center my double bass and makes me feel that this head is more durable.

    "Best" is such a subjective word to use in reviews for instruments so I won't say it's the best head. But I will say that this is by far my favorite bass drum head I have ever used. I'm using it on my 22" Ludwig Classic Maple, and I liked it so much I'm putting one on my 24" kick too.
    I'm using a thinner craft-grade felt strip for muffling on mine than Steve Smith may be using in his videos on the YouTubes where he's showing the walk through of his Journey touring kit. I may try the coated version next time, but I can't imagine I will ever go back a different head.
    For me, it sounds like I've finally found the perfect blend of attack and tone that I always wanted.
