Product Description

The Snugpak Special Forces Bivvi Bag provides protection from the elements year round with its completely waterproof construction. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is equipped with a center half-length zip and is wider at the chest than the original Bivvi Bag. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is also best suited for use with the Softie Antarctica or the Special Forces System. You can carry the bivvi bag on its own for emergencies, use it with a sleep system for wild camping, or with a sleeping bag and air mat for planned camping trips. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is made of Paratex Dry fabric, a completely waterproof, durable, lightweight protective shell that is designed to keep out the elements. Paratex Dry is also windproof, which traps heat inside the bag with you to keep you warm and prevents cold air from entering the bag. Take care to not completely seal the Special Forces Bivvi Bag, because although it is breathable and wicks moisture out of the bag, sufficient air to sustain breathing cannot pass through the fabric. Water vapor from within the bag is transferred chemically to the outside of the bag due to the polyurethane coating to keep you warm and dry. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag comes with its own stuff sack and packs down to a travel-friendly 6 by 4 inches; weighs only 12 ounces. The water repellent feature of this bag can be maintained by a cool tumble dry after washing and periodic treatment with suitable water repellent products. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is 90 inches long and 33 inches wide so that it can fit over your sleeping bag as a protective outer shell. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag will ensure you are equipped for emergency situations and will remain dry and warm even in the most unexpected weather conditions.

The bivvy bag is well made and light weight compared to the military bivvy bag I am use to. The price is at it's lowest from what I have seen in a long time at $145.63 with tax and delivery. The only issue or design flaw is the draw string at the head of the bag. It does not close properly or easily. I had to pop two new holes and re-route the cord to close it properly and more easily. Once I made that modification the bivvy bag worked fine. The zipper moves easily. I can fit my top quilt into the bag and then slide myself in fairly easy. You can use the bivvy as a floor liner under your air mattress on hot days. The bivvy and stuff sack weigh 332g or 11.7oz. Bivvy stuff sack has a nice design with a Velcro handle to pull out easily from inside your bag or use the Velcro handle to secure the bag on the outside of your pack. Highly recommend this bivvy sack.

I have purchased a few of these for various kits and they have all performed flawlessly until this most recent one. When I received it, it was packaged differently than the others, it was packaged in a different stuff sack than the previous ones, had different tags and most importantly it was not as durable as it somehow got multiple tears in it before I even got to use it the first time. When I noticed the packaging was different I should have sent it back and got another one, but I thought maybe the packaging had just changed. I was wrong! The other 3 have been amazing and again like I said have performed flawlessly under some pretty serious situations. Assuming your get the actual SnugPak brand version with no funny business they are worth purchasing despite the high price tag which is steep but it does fluctuate I’ve noticed. I have tried other Bivvy bags and they are either much heavier (military versions) or not as breathable and create condensation (AQ Pharaoh). These SnugPak brand ones do not create condensation and are surprisingly very breathable while being waterproof. They have paired very nicely with multiple mummy bags I have used and the Helikon-Tex Swagman Roll.

I still maintain the 5 star rating because when you get the real deal you most certainly will not be disappointed!

I was looking for a very lightweight bivvi to add to a lightweight, minimalist lumbar pack. This bivvi came highly recommended by a close associate and I believe this will work great!

The positive:
- Very lightweight and compact
- Fairly durable, but not like MSS Bivvi Gore-Tex durable (but also much less weight than Gore-Tex--acceptable tradeoff
- Center zipper--makes getting in and out of the bivvi nice and easy
- Snug, but roomy enough without feeling crammed. I'm 5'10" and 190lbs.
- Breathable (supposedly), but the inner coating makes me wonder just how breathable to appropriately vent perspiration. I guess we'll see.
- Great quality. All the stitching is excellent!
- Cinchable hood

The negative:
- Expensive!
- Expensive!
- Expensive!
- Did I mention expensive?

I don't know how Snugpak justifies the price for this bivvi! I guess it's just one of those buy-and-cry-once items., but it's no less frustrating! It really is a nice, compact, lightweight product that gives you no excuse to not carry a bivvi sack as part of a shelter system, even with smaller set-ups like minimalist lumber packs. This bivvi compacts down very small and is very lightweight. Coupled with my woobie, this bivvi will work excellent as part of my lightweight shelter system.

I bought this as a Company Commander looking to decrease my clothing record and the weight in my ruck sack. I did try to fit it with my jungle bag's stuff sack with the stuff sack, so that I'd only have to bring one bag. It was hard to do and was not able to fully sinch down. Carrying the two small bags occupies exponentially less space and weight in my ruck, I just couldn't fit them together in one bag like the issued sleep system. End state met and a major benefit over the larger issued system. Jungle bag also has the zipper on the side so just takes a few dry runs to get used to getting out quickly.

love the material. completely waterproof. 0% breathable. which i was expecting. size is perfect for a insulated pad and 2 sleeping bags. zipper constantly wants to zip down so i'll have to stick a bit of velcro that i have around and it should be good to go. understandable why it's there; for faster escapes from your bag but for convenience sake, i'll put a bit of velcro at the top as a stopper. 10/10 from me. feels durable. snugpak makes great products.

I also ordered the Jungle bag, Fleece liner and 2 Jungle blankets to complete the system.
The blankets are a little overkill but l'd rather have it and not need it. (You get the idea. )

Very useful item to keep your sleeping bag dry in your tent or under a tarp, I have a down sleeping bag which needs to stay dry and this bivvi bag does the job well. It also adds another layer of trapped air which helps to keep you warm. This is a high quality item, the fabric has a nice feel to it, the seams are taped and the zip feels like its good quality. It also packs up small and light. I've used it several times and I'm very happy with it.
