Nice sturdy shovel

Nice sturdy shovel
This is a very good shovel. I like that it is all metal and no parts that will separate that I see. I'm a petite weak lady and I can't use other shovels because it is just too hard for me. I would rather use a trowel and take forever than use a big shovel. This one was actually fun for me to use. I can position the shovel to go in the ground and balance on the step part of it and wiggle it back and forth for it to go into the ground and then I can pull back on it without worrying about it breaking and it lifts up the dirt. I look like I'm on a pogo stick and it still takes me a while because I'm slow and not heavy and not strong but it is easier and faster than my trowel and doable for me rather than the other shovel that I use to have with a wooden handle that broke.I've dug 3 holes since I got this shovel and that is a lot more big holes that I ever could do without it. 2 times were happy times and my plants are happy but the 3rd time was unfortunately sad because I had to bury my kitty in the rain.It is harder to dig in the rain because the wet dirt sticks to the shovel and makes it heavier so I would have to use my foot to get the mud off and then the step gets slippery but the shovel cleans up quickly. I don't recommend digging in the rain. It seemed more dangerous because of the slipperiness. But if you think you have to do it like I did then it still works pretty well.Whenever my husband uses it he says that it is a good sturdy shovel. He uses it the regular way that I see most people use a shovel and he can dig a hole for me in like a minute or three. Very impressive to me but then again he is a man.I like that this has a bigger step for me to use. This is heavy but maybe that is a good thing. The color of this is nice and it goes in the ground easy.It has a coating on it so that it won't rust.It seems like it will last a long time. The best part is that I can use it myself when my husband is busy.I'm glad I got it for it has been useful.Update: It is now 2023. My neighbor borrowed my shovel and now it is broken. ;( I am sad.It was useful a long while.

Fiskars makes my most favorite sewing shears so I was dubious when I saw this "heavy duty" shovel that is make by them. This is absolutely the BEST shovel for heavy duty digging! My lite duty shovel is great for moving dirt because it IS so much lighter - but to get that dirt out of the ground, the Fiskars is just the ticket. Note that the price is right also!

I have had this shovel for over 20 years...! Digs through roots, pries up massive rocks... the only thing they could do to make it better would be to make the butt of the handle a solid 2-inch flat circle and it would be a shovel / pry bar and tamping rod all in one... but that flat disc on a shovel would take some getting used to. Regardless, I have had this shovel for over 20 years, and since I dig through soil with gravel at times, or hit a lot of rocks... putting an edge back on the shovel point with a grinder is all that is needed every now and then. I like this shovel so much I bought 2 more when on sale for $22 each. Yes, it is heavy, but that's what you need if you are doing serious digging, in hard clay / rocky soil. If it's too heavy for you, trade it in for a feather duster and forget about digging. When I installed fence for a living, I worked all day with a digging bar and solid iron post hole diggers that weighed about 25 lbs. each. This shovel is a feather compared to those; yes, it is heavier than a regular shovel, but that is what you need to dig... you need weight / mass for inertia to do real digging (unless you have had dump truck loads of top soil trucked in and spread 2 feet deep in wherever you are digging). Get it. You will never need another. It will not break. If it does, it has a lifetime warranty. Why did I buy 2 more...? —it was too good to be true and could not pass it up... and now I can give the old one to a friend if I want... and it will last another 20 years for him.

This is the 2nd one I have purchaed and I can tell you that after almost 10 years, this is the best shovel I have ever used.... there isn't even a close 2nd place.
Digging out tree stumps, no worries about breaking the shovel when prying on roots, and I'm a big guy who can put a lot of force on that shovel.
So then why did I purchase a 2nd one? Because I got tired of having to give my good shovel to someone else and using the junky one. Now that I have two, I don't have to give up mine.

Purchased to replace a fiberglass shaft shovel which snapped in half while digging up small trees. This steel Fiskars shovel is much sturdier, and is holding up very well to heavy use. The large handle and curved shaft design provide great leverage, and the shovel head is capable of chopping straight through small roots. Definitely the most solid heavy duty shovel available in its price range.

This is a fantastic transplanting shovel. The FISKARS quality is there. I love everything about it. The grip/handle is solid and comfortable, the actual shovel is great quality and has a nice wide section at the top that allows you to position your foot to push the shovel into the ground. The only thing is that it is a tall shovel - I am 5'6 and I could use it as a crutch if I got injured planting the 250 trees I just purchased to plant on our property. It's perfect for my 6'3" brother... he loves it too.
